Porsche 356C , restored , 1965.
Posted 4 months ago
On launch in 1948 the Porsche 356 employed a platform chassis with rear-mounted air-cooled engine and torsion bar all-independent suspension. 1955 marked the arrival of the 356A, readily distinguishable by its now curved one-piece screen, a wider range of engines and 15'' instead of 16'' wheels. Announced at the 1959 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Porsche 356B T5 enhanced Porsche's reputation as builders of the finest small capacity sports cars, continuing the huge commercial success of its predecessors. Handling, ride and refinement were improved, as well as the addition of a more powerful 90bhp 1600cc engine to the range, a higher nose, more vertical headlamp lenses and raised front winglets - all of which increased the original cars' appeal and firmly established it as by far the best car in its class.
Prior to the launch of the 356C in 1963, the 356B with the T6 body was announced in 1962, with the twin air vents, larger rear window, and the facelift to the front of the car with the wider lower edge to the bonnet. The 356C launched in 1964 continued with the T6 body, but offered disc brakes all around, and with the 75 bhp and 95 bhp SC engine options
Ex California USA and first registered in 1965 as Left Hand Drive. Imported into the UK in 1990 and sold on to a local Jersey owner by a London based Porsche 356 specialist years ago. The owner, a Porsche enthusiast engaged us to undertake a staged restoration of the bodywork to the highest of standards.
Mechanically the has been serviced and maintained and is in good running order and driving well.
The body is in excellent condition, having all the hidden corrosion prone areas of a 356 attended to, with all rust cut out and new metal sections fabricated and welded in. This work was not undertaken with budgetary constraints but undertaken to a correct and particularly high standard ensuring all hidden corrosion was removed. The paintwork and the chrome are in excellent condition also.
The interior is in excellent order and possibly replaced at some stage judging by the condition. Even the correct period Blaupunkt radio works!
This is a desirable classic Porsche 356C with suitable power, handling and performance to make it a touring or historic rally car. It has been well looked after and restored by the current owner at considerable expense. This car is in excellent condition both inside and out and comes with a detailed restoration file.
