Mercedes Benz E500. 1994, low mileage . LHD
Posted 1 week ago
Mercedes Benz, in a unique collaboration with Porsche, produced the iconic W124 E500 between February 1991 and April 1995. More than two million W124s were sold but only 10,479 E500s were built, all of them in left hand drive form. Originally badged as the 500E, the model benefitted from the W124 facelift in 1993 and was re-badged as the E500. To the uninitiated it looks very similar to a standard E Class but in fact is a radically different car. Taking 8 days to build, each car moved multiple times between the Porsche factory at Rossle-Bau (previously home to the 959 production line) and the Mercedes factory at Sindelfingen and was largely hand assembled, being too wide to fit on the standard W124 production line. Every body panel, aside from the roof and boot lid, differs from the standard W124 due to the car being lower and wider. The V8 engine produces 316bhp and 347lb/ft of torque, driving through a four speed automatic gearbox.
This particular car benefits from the upgraded brakes and suspension fitted to post 1993 facelift examples, having been built in 1994. A homologation letter from Mercedes Benz confirms that the car was originally supplied new in Germany to a customer who collected it in person from the factory. The car was first registered on 1 August 1994 and subsequently covered only 28,600 km in its first six years before being exported to Tokyo, Japan in early 2000. The car was imported from Japan into Jersey by its current owner in 2018 and has covered a total of only 74,700 km over its 27 year life, making it one of the lowest mileage E500s in existence.
Mechanically the car is in superb condition and drives beautifully. The extensive service history shows that the car has been regularly maintained throughout its life despite its very modest annual mileage. As a Japanese registered vehicle, for much of its life it has been subject to the rigorous biennial Shaken vehicle inspection regime. The absence of body corrosion confirms it has not been subject to harsh treatment. On its importation into Jersey, the car again had to undergo an extensive inspection before being registered. In Japan it was maintained at a Tokyo Mercedes dealer and in Jersey all work has been completed at a local Independent Mercedes specialist. To comply with Jersey road traffic laws, an MPH speedometer card has been installed on top of the original KMH card although the odometer still records in KMH. The MPH card can easily be removed to restore the car to its original spec.
The bodywork is in excellent overall condition and corrosion free. The car is finished in blue black metallic (Mercedes option 199). The original 16” eight hole alloy wheels are in excellent condition and were fitted two years ago with 2 new Continental ContiPremiumContact tyres, which have covered less than 2,000 miles. The car also comes with a set of extremely rare 17” five spoke Mercedes Evo II alloy wheels as fitted to the E500 Limited (the last 500 cars built in 1994 at the end of the production run). The Evo II wheels have been refurbished and are fitted with new (unused) Continental ContiSportContact 5 tyres.
The interior is finished in black leather which is all in excellent condition. Extensive factory fitted options are all in working order and include electrically adjustable driver and passenger seats, electric sliding/tilting sunroof, electrically adjustable steering column, automatic climate control, folding front armrest, heated front seats, electric rear roller blind, 10 speaker Bose sound system. The original stereo head unit has been replaced with an up-to-date Kenwood radio/CD player with Bluetooth, however the car also comes with the correct Becker BE1490 Exquisit head unit as originally specified in case the new owner wishes to return the car to original spec. New black car mats have also been fitted.
An extensive service history shows that the car has clearly been cherished throughout its life It has been meticulously cared for by the current owner and is in original condition throughout. Currently in Jersey, but shipping to the UK or worldwide can be arranged.
An excellent low mileage example.
