Details

Putting the feelers out for my BMW E46 M3, which I’m considering selling.

It’s a car I never expected to part with, but another potential project means it may be time for someone else to enjoy it.

If you’ve seen the car at any local meets over the last year, you’ll know just how well it’s been looked after.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest driver’s cars ever built, and by many the finest BMW ever produced, this is the enthusiast’s specification that most people spend years trying to find.

- 2003 Facelift model with factory LED lights

- Silver Grey Metallic, one of the most sought-after E46 M3 colours, and one of only two colours offered on the legendary CSL.

- Just 71,000 genuine miles

- CSL Carbon Air intake

Over the past year I’ve invested heavily to bring the car up to the standard it deserves.

Recent work includes:

- Fully refurbished genuine BMW alloy wheels fitted (July 2025)

- Four new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres

- New discs, pads and sensors all round

- Full four-wheel alignment

In November 2025, the car received an extensive major service including:

- Engine oil and filter

- Spark plugs

- Coil packs

- Air, engine and cabin filters

- Gearbox oil

- Differential oil

- Power steering fluid

- Complete brake fluid flush and bleed

The car has also been tastefully enhanced with a number of OEM+ upgrades that improve the driving experience while retaining the factory character:

- Karbonious CSL carbon fibre airbox – widely regarded as the closest 1:1 replica of the genuine CSL intake

- Genuine CSL ECU calibration to suit the airbox, improving power approximately 25bhp over standard

- Genuine illuminated BMW gear knob, giving a slightly shorter, more engaging shift

- Larger Euro-style exhaust tips

The CSL intake conversion alone cost in the region of £3,000 including all associated parts, ECU programming and installation.

Mechanically, the car is exactly as an E46 M3 should be. The S54 pulls hard throughout the entire rev range, the gearbox is slick, and it drives beautifully with no unwanted knocks, rattles or vibrations.

The previous owner kept the car in dry storage for almost ten years, only taking it out for occasional drives and servicing. Since buying it, I’ve focused on recommissioning and restoring it.

To finish everything off, the car has also received a full detail, including full paint decontamination, polish and ceramic coating that is regularly topped up.

Finding a manual, facelift, no-sunroof coupe with low mileage and the right OEM+ upgrades is becoming increasingly difficult if not impossible. This is a genuinely special example that will only appreciate in value over time.

At the time of writing, there are around 75 BMW E46 M3s advertised on Auto Trader in the UK, yet only one is a manual coupe with fewer than 80,000 miles. That particular example is advertised at £120,000, albeit with an exceptionally low 3,000 miles. Whilst not directly comparable, it demonstrates the increasing scarcity and desirability of high-quality cars, particularly as CSL values have now exceeded £200,000. More comparable manual coupe examples with sensible mileage have recently changed hands in the £30,000–£40,000 region.
