The Iconic Legacy

Breitling may be best known for its aviation chronographs and substantial sports watches, but the Galactic collection showed another side of the brand. It took Breitling’s unmistakable design language and condensed it into something more refined, combining the robustness of a sports watch with the finishing and materials of a luxury jewellery watch.

The Galactic 32 sits at the more elegant end of that family. Its rider-tab bezel is pure Breitling, while the integrated-style bracelet, polished surfaces and compact proportions give it a completely different personality from a Navitimer or Super Avenger.

This 2014 C71356 is particularly attractive because of its combination of stainless steel and 18ct rose gold. Add the chocolate-toned dial and you have a Breitling that feels distinctly of its era but looks far more interesting today than many of the safer configurations produced alongside it.

Why You’ll Love It

The Galactic isn’t the Breitling most people immediately think of, and that’s part of what I like about it.

Breitling built its reputation around functional watches for pilots, divers and professionals, but references such as the C71356 demonstrate how well those familiar design elements translate into something smaller and more luxurious. The raised rider tabs, strong bracelet design and highly finished case are unmistakably Breitling, but the rose gold and chocolate dial completely change their character.

There is also something appealing about buying outside the obvious choices. You aren’t going to see another one of these on every wrist, and finding this particular combination in such exceptional condition makes it considerably more interesting.

For someone looking for a smaller luxury watch with real substance, glamour and a little more individuality, this is an unusually good proposition.
